Michael has been practicing in Seattle for over a decade where his work has focused on developing housing and density in both urban and suburban settings.
Drawn to the Northwest by the lure of oceans and mountains, Michael journeyed to Seattle in 2013 where he began a position with Ankrom Moisan Architects. In Seattle, Michael’s opportunities as a designer advanced along with the explosive growth of the city starting with 777 Thomas a 175-unit apartment building in South Lake Union whose progress he supervised for more than three years. Michael then ventured into high end senior housing completing designs for the Aegis Laurelhurst and Holden of Bellevue projects before returning to large scale, market rate multifamily developments in downtown Redmond, Belltown, and most recently Fremont.
At Ankrom, Michael became known for being a generalist with responsibilities often straddling those of project designer and project architect and gained a reputation for thoroughness as well as a thoughtful sensitivity toward design. There he was able to forge close, collaborative relationships with fellow staff and major clients. Unfortunately, Michael’s role with Ankrom concluded in the spring of 2024 due to an officewide shortage of work and deep staff reductions.
Today Michael is seeking his next set of collaborators and prioritizing opportunities for exposure to projects that concentrate on thoughtful placemaking, leveraging opportunities for mass timber construction, or pursuing rigorous sustainability initiatives such as Passive House performance or Living Building Challenge certification.
When not solving design problems, Michael can be found on the trail, hiking, biking, and backpacking, tending to his garden, or or snuggled up with his orange cat, Carl.
